General Tips on Feminine Appearance for Cross dressers

* Become knowledgeable in the area of makeup, beauty and fashion. There is a lot more to all of these subjects then most men could ever imagine. If you want to present yourself as a woman invest the time in learning about these things. Believe me, it’s worth it. A good place to start is the beauty section of the library. A great book to start with is How Do I Look? by Gale Hayman. Also reading women’s fashion magazines will be useful in keeping up with current trends. I subscribe to Allure and Glamour both of which have plenty of articles on the above subjects.

* Clean up your eyebrows! I can’t believe the number of otherwise attractive girls with bushy or worse yet one long eyebrow (yuck!). Believe me I know most of us can’t have perfect feminine eyebrows because of real world jobs, but no one is going to complain if you are well groomed. If you do opt to make them more feminine then be sure that any change you make is done over time. Simply trim and pluck on a weekly basis going a little neater each time. If anyone notices say you over trimmed and grow them back to the last point before someone noticed. Never has a single person commented on my eyebrows when I am in male grab. One more trick, leave off the low end of the arch (on the sides of your face). This will keep them more masculine looking normally and the finish of the arch can easily be added with a smudge of eyebrow pencil and the effect will be dramatic in making your face more feminine.

* If you need a wig get yourself a decent one and maintain it. Cheap wigs are just that, cheap and they will get you noticed quicker then almost anything else. If you can use your real hair that is best, but most of us (myself included) can’t. When you invest in a expensive wig you want it to last and keep looking good. To do this you must comb it out after each wear and wash it on a regular basis. If you don’t feel comfortable washing it bring it to a professional to have it cleaned.

* If you don’t have hips or a female looking butt invest in a pair of padded panties. These can be bought in many places (I get mine through the Frederick’s of Hollywood catalog). and will greatly enhance your female shape. They sell them with two pads (just the butt) and four pads (Butt and sides). Be sure and get the pair that most enhances your shape. My friend Jean was hysterical when she found out I pad my hips and butt. She said something like “There is an whole industry out there to help women reduce their butts and you want to pad yours?!?”

* If you can’t shave your arms and they are hairy, don’t wear short sleeves or sleeveless outfits. What I do is use a beard trimmer to keep my arm hair short enough that it is not noticeable when I am going out as Diane. In between my outings I let it grow and just wear long sleeve shirts for two or three days after I trim. The hair grows out faster since I don’t shave it all the way down. No one has every noticed that I do this. If trimming is not for you stick to long sleeves.

* Breast forms. I don’t care what kind you use whether they are bought or home made they have to LOOK realistic. I stress look because unless someone other then you is going to be touching them how they feel is not important. You can get away with birdseed or rice filled nylons that look quite natural for most blouses or dresses. Padding from old shoulder pads also works well. Myself I have several kinds and sizes to wear depending on my outfit One more thing; be sure and size your breasts to your body. Having a size B body with size DD breasts will attract lots of attention and not all of it will be positive.

* If you have hairy legs and can’t shave, wear two pairs of pantyhose. If you can still see the hair then try darker hose. You can use the beard trimmer for your legs too to thin out the hair. Just adjust the trimmer to a higher level. With some experimentation you will find the proper level that allows you to get away with wearing one pair of hose while maintaining “normal” looking male legs most of the time.

* Nose and ear hair. If you have it then do everyone a favor and trim it! Believe me, this is another thing that can only help both your female and male appearance.

* Wash your face at least once a day (twice is better) with a cleanser. Then use a toner and moisturizer. In fact it is a good idea to moisturize your hands, arms and legs too if you want to keep them nice and soft.

* Whether you keep your nails long or not, they should always be clean and look well manicured. A light buffing with a nail buffing cream once a week will keep them looking good and give them a nice shine (though not too much that people will notice when you are in drab).

a liittle bit of a rush but worth it!...

Today i went to my first T- Group meeting/drop in thing and it was pretty good. I nearly didn't make it because of work stuff, I planned to have to whole afternoon off but well, you know how these sorts of things rarely go to plan ( leave work at 12 o'clock? ha! ) so i ended up leaving at 2.30 instead which ment i rushed around trying to get ready and nearly missed to whole thing.

I wasn't entirely sure what to wear, it may sound silly but it was abit of a dilemma for me. In the end i went for something vaguely femaleish in that i wore capri jeans and heeled sandals on my bottom half and a sweater vest under a 3/4 sleeve v neck from hennes on the top half. to be honest i looked abit dishevelled from all the rushing about but i like to think it was dishevelled in a sort of quirky cool way which was the look i was hopeing for!

Actually I'm really glad though that i did make it as it was really useful and i got to meet some very cool new people. Its a weekly meeting so i'll be trying to go on a fairly regular basis i think.
What was great was that the majority of people there seem quite normal ( i know, i know, Mr.pot meet Mr.kettle ) but by this i mean there was no-one who was doing the characiture/stereotype/drag thing which i've heard can be a thing at some of these meetings. Everyone seemed really cool and really friendly as well which was good as part of the reason i went was to start making friends in the trans community in Brighton.

It was all quite informal and afterwards i ended up going to a nice cafe for a drink and something to eat with one of the people i met which was really nice as well.

Its fantastic to be able to talk to someone who has and is going through the same thing as me.
So all in all its a very good thing that i managed to get my arse in gear and make it to this meeting as i think i've made a few new friends and some useful contacts to boot, so once again its hooray me! :) Kisses...

I’ve been asked about makeup tips by some friends, as none of them could figure out how my lipstick lasted most of the day and didn’t wind up on mugs and silverware. I’m putting it out here because I know there must be a woman who is going through trial and error out there, and she doesn’t have someone to turn to for help because of shyness or shame. This one’s for you!

If you’re interested in some good products, here are some recommendations from me with some ideas on how to handle your lipstick. I could go on and on about makeup, but instead I’ll keep it short and sweet by focusing on one topic.

A caveat before we begin: these recommendations may not all apply if you are still receiving eletrolysis and have the raw upper lip to prove it. Hang in there - it will end eventually.

If you are having trouble with lipstick application, such as having it go on rough (and not lasting at all, no kidding, right?), “bleeding,” or “feathering,” part of the problem is cracked skin, which means you need better moisturizing throughout the day and especially at night. Age can also be a culprit in widening those fine lines, particularly if you have smoked for a time. Technique and products can change that.

After you exfoliate as much as you can (follow the orders from your professional), apply a moisturizer (be careful of chemicals that can aggravate acne, and again follow your professional’s orders before you try anything here). Then apply a concealer over the top of your lip. Foundation tends to be too liquidy and hard to control in this area. Application is key, so unless I can control, I don’t use it. Even something like Bare Escentuals powder foundation won’t help this area in prepping it for color that stays. Concealers and “wrinkle fillers” are basically “pancake base” and/or some combination of fillers and moisturizers, often in a tube shape of some sort for spot fixes, like undereye circles and blemishes. There are also some other interesting products that can give you a smooth canvas that I’ll review below.

This is a very good product to use for your base prep, but pricey:

Perricone offers a similar product for this need. Beware of Perricone converts: they tend to be cultish in their adoration of the product, and hey, it’s for a reason.

N.V. Perricone Pore Refining Concealer

Physicians Formula and Prescriptives also have good concealer products that are cheaper at regular drug stores, some of which have good return policies specifically for cosmetics. DuWop has an item called Reverse Lip Liner that you can use before or after lipliner/lipstick application to “buttress” the color inside your lipline without “feathering.” Mac has two products that could help here: one is lip and lid prep, as the same thing can happen with the crease in your eyelid, and another is Photofinish, which is great alone or with foundation for full-face coverage or area treatment. eBay has some great deals on MAC products, though they are not always guaranteed for purity, and they come in small sizes - worth it if you just want to try, though you could also do that at a MAC counter.

After you prep your base in whatever way works for you, apply lip liner. You’ll know whether to go inside your natural lip line or just outside of it. Clowns are scary, and practice is the only way to get it right. I’ve bought the cheapo Wet ‘n Wild lipliners for $.99. That’s great if you want to try out colors, but they tend to crumble during application, go on unevenly, and look grainy after a half hour. Yeck. The pigments are also not very well-blended, so you get different (often unflattering) color and sparkle effects depending on the light.

I’m also a Clinique fan because of the way the color looks on skin and how long it lasts (same with the eyeliners, FYI):

The name “Avon” might bring images of your neighbor peddling to your mom, but it’s decent, quality stuff with fairly good staying power. I personally am still not a fan of the color selection, but if you can find one that works for you or like to blend colors, it could work, especially since it’s reasonably priced:

Philosophy is also a good line. I haven’t heard of people with even very sensitive skin having any kind of reaction from their ingredients:

I’ve heard raves about the Shiseido line, though I haven’t tried it myself:

You can either fill in your lips with the lip pencil, which is what I do, or you can apply lipstick, which will need more reapplications throughout the day.
If you want to apply only pencil, dab in some more color and take a little bit of clear gloss to help swirl the color around your lips with a lip brush. If you want to apply lipstick, forego the gloss and apply the lipstick with a brush.

Either way, you should have a good lip brush to keep color inside the lines and to get an even application. The goal is to blend the lipliner seamlessly into your lip color overall; some people go for the two-toned look, but I’m not one of them. The brush also gets color into fine lines in your lips, so the look is smoother.

Make the investment in a decent brush, and it will last with good cleaning. Don’t go for the cheapest one in the drugstore, if you can avoid it; those bristles break easy and swish in all different directions as you work the color.

I leave my color matte for the most part. If you want shine on top of your color, go for a gloss that isn’t too gooey and viscous-looking:

You also might want to try a “lip-plumping” gloss before you apply lipstick/lip liner and after your color application if you need more fullness:
